Inspiring volunteers throughout Britain
Bringing together leading national charities
All the charities that make up Shaping the Future with Volunteering depend on volunteers to deliver their mission.
We want to make our charities more welcoming for volunteers from all communities and to increase overall awareness of volunteering and the contribution it makes to society and the economy as a whole.
We work across 4 themes:
We’ll tell our story together
We'll promote better understanding and celebrate the power of volunteering.
We’ll highlight the contribution volunteering makes to the economy and society. We’ll share our insight from volunteers’ experiences and how that shapes our activities, and how we assess that impact.
We have a shared commitment to equity, diversity & inclusion
We'll learn from the best examples of volunteer engagement across diverse demographics, geographies and cultures. With this knowledge we’ll extend our reach together, listening to more diverse voices and challenging our own perspectives.
In particular we seek to connect with those communities who face the most challenges, including global majority communities, as well as people in areas of deprivation.
Our goal is for people across all communities to try volunteering. We are therefore lead partners in The Big Help Out. We want people from all backgrounds to experience the extraordinary positive difference volunteering makes to individuals and groups.
Volunteers are not just at the heart of what we do
Our work is shaped by volunteers as we strive to learn more about valuing them and how we can better support them. We’ll review the accessibility of our systems to make it easier for more people from different backgrounds and circumstances to become volunteers and have their skills and experience recognised, while protecting and promoting their well-being. We will enable people to volunteer in a way that best suits their needs and individual personal situations.
We’ll work with other organisations supporting volunteers
We'll learn from each other to unlock and maximise the true potential of volunteering. We’ll collaborate closely with government, business and other agencies, highlighting areas where their action can help us realise the potential of volunteering to both society and the economy. In particular we will support our national sector bodies (eg NCVO) in their lobbying of government around the impact that regulation has on how organisations can deploy volunteers.
