Volunteer surveys

Valuing and supporting our nation’s volunteers is vital

Many national charities invite their volunteers to have their say through regular surveys, and Shaping The Future is enhancing this work through its member organisations by asking 7 common questions across their surveys.

These questions give us a broad picture with nearly 40,000 volunteers answering them in the latest analysis.

We ask whether respondents:

  • feel able to access opportunities
  • feel comfortable
  • can express themselves
  • feel listened to
  • feel adequately trained
  • have benefited from new skills
  • have improved their wellbeing.

Using this survey to understand the benefits of volunteering while also understanding the challenges enables us to plan and deliver our work more effectively. Results of asking these questions across member charities are collated twice a year.
