Volunteering pledge

Volunteering to support refugees

The value of volunteering is essential

Making politicians understand the value of volunteering is essential in encouraging more people to do it. MPs’ commitment can spread awareness, improve access, break down barriers and create real change that brings a lasting benefit to communities.

In the run up to the 2024 General Election, Shaping The Future urged parliamentary candidates across the political spectrum to support a 5-point  ‘Volunteering Pledge’ recognising that volunteering is the backbone of our society and committing to:

  1. do all they could do create a well-resourced volunteering sector
  2. ensure access to volunteering opportunities regardless of background circumstances
  3. encourage volunteering as a way of developing social, personal and wider skills to increase employability
  4. support The Big Help Out.

At the same time, we called on them to join in Volunteers' Week and Big Help Out activity in their constituencies and promote these on social media.
